Doreen Valiente Plaque Unveiled

Doreen Valiente Plaque Unveiled

On the 21st June a unique Blue Plaque was unveiled in Brighton. It is unique on two counts, being the first plaque ever to honour a witch and secondly due to where it is mounted, on a block of council flats. The days events were organised by The Doreen Valiente Foundation who were able to get their application in for the plaque just before English Heritage were forced to close the scheme due to government cuts of 34%. Events started in the Steine where Ralph & Audrey Harvey, prominent members of the Pagan community, held an open ritual to honour Doreen and the day. After lunch everyone made their way up the hill to the flats, Tyson Place, where the Pentacle Drummers and Hunters Moon Morris performed, followed by speeches and the unveiling by the Mayor of Brighton.
